Home advantage is the key factor

IN A WEEK with little crown green bowling action, Alcester Bowling Club’s results went completely with ground advantage.

In Division Three of the Yardley Wood Superleague, the A team visited White Hart A in the return match after the previous week’s closely fought game. Although they had three winning cards from Jean Bannister (21-11), Ken Harvey (21-17) and Dave Hovell (21-19), Alcester went down by 27 shots to a 15-3 defeat.

In Division Four, the B team hosted Maggies B and Alcester easily completed the double against the youthful visitors with a 70-shot triumph.

For Alcester, Tricia Barry (21-1), John Westmoreland (21-2) and Eric Allport were all in majestic form, with Margaret D’Elia and John Willis (both 21-11), David Hodgson (21-19) and Gill Evans (21-20) adding points.

The final tally was 17 points for the hosts to just one for the visitors.

Alcester A travelled to Hockley Heath A in Division Two of the Heart of England League and suffered a massive 71-shot setback. With only one winner – John Alderson (21-18) – Alcester crashed to a 17-1 defeat.

The B team received a visit from British Oak B in Division Five and the hosts gained a comfortable 34-shot victory.

David Hodgson (21-5) and Margaret D’Elia (21-8) produced excellent cards, with solid support from Rick Horton (21-13), David Sutor (21-14), Geoff Spiers (21-15) and Gill Spiers (21-16) to give Alcester a 16-2 success.
