HDA Redditch junior sides are flying high

JUNE’S final round of Wildmoor Spa Tennis League Junior Tennis Cup pool matches have been completed.

Qualifying for the play-offs in July are Henley-in-Arden A or HDA Redditch B in Pool A, Littletons A in Pool B, Bidford-on-Avon in Pool C and HDA Redditch A in Pool D.

Pool A, scheduled to be hosted by Warwick, was rained off and will be played the night before the semi-final play-offs in July.

The two top teams are both in contention as Henley A lead by a solitary point with 17, with HDA Redditch B just behind on 16.

Either one could qualify for the play-offs and the other two teams – Henley B with 12 and Warwick with nine – cannot qualify, but could indeed make a difference as to who goes through depending on their match scores against the top two.

Pool B was played at Littletons and saw hosts Littletons A undefeated and go through to the play-offs comfortably with 23 points, three more than runners-up Chipping Campden A.

The Littletons A pair, brothers Oliver and Jacob Medley, opened with a 6-2 win over contenders Campden A and then beat sister side Littletons B 6-1 before finishing off with a 6-1 victory over Chipping Campden B.

Campden A pair finished runners-up after their duo William Smith JJ Coleman beat sister side Campden B 6-0 and hung on to second spot even though they had to award a 6-0 walkover win to their opponents Littleton B when one of the Campden A players had to leave the tournament early.

In the final match Littletons B boys Robbie Clear and John Blakely defeated Campden B boys Joe Lindner and Alex Alexiou 6-1.

Stratford hosted Pool C and leaders Bidford maintained their 100 per cent record to qualify for the play-offs with a maximum 24 points, nine clear of the second placed team.

Bidford boys Adam Farrow and Alfie Lovell again overpowered all three opponents, starting with hosts Stratford 6-1, then Pershore 6-0, before defeating Evesham 6-3.

While Evesham finished second on the night, it was Pershore’s Alfie Hoyle and Jack Marsh who finished the group in second place with 15 points.

They beat Stratford 6-0 but lost 6-3 to Evesham, for whom Joseph Williams and Jamie Woodcock then also beat Stratford pair Dylan Jones and Jack Seabourn 6-2.

Pool D was played at Alcester and once more saw reigning champions HDA Redditch A again cruise to victory in all three of their matches.

Last year’s champion pairing Harvey Ravenscroft and Scott Mortimer overcame all opposition – Alcester A, Alcester B and Ilmington.

They beat Alcester A 6-2, Alcester B 6-2 and Ilmington 6-0 and this, like Bidford in Pool C, gave them the maximum 24 points, although only a five-point lead over second placed Alcester A.

The latter’s lads Adam Haerle and Luke Clemons went on to beat Alcester B 6-1 and Ilmington 6-0, whilst Alcester B boys Charlie Derby and Chris Hillman came third in the table when they beat Ilmington 6-0.
