WHITE Hart made a very encouraging start to their Northfield & District Sunday League campaign with home and away victories in the opening fixtures.

New captain Mick Perrins led by example at West Warwicks in Division Two as the A team achieved five winners. Perrins won 21-16 and was well supported by Paul Matthews (21-7), Stan Pritchard (21-9), Mike Estell (21-12) and Sue Sugden. (21-17).

Meanwhile, at Headless Cross, the B team were getting the better of Selly Park B in Division Four.

Led by non-playing captain Di Pritchard, the team had six winners in a 160-143 victory.




Tim Hollingshead (21-13), Kirk Wright (21-18) and Kate Broome (21-20) led the way in the first half and were backed up well by Gill Croft (21-15), Tony Sugden (21-14) and Roger Broome (21-20) in the second round of games.

Neil Laxton and John Meredith also put up a good showing for Hart in defeats against the two highest rated Selly Park B players in last season’s averages.


The annual Needles doubles tournament at White Hart was won by Ian Humphreys and Tony Sugden, who overcame the challenge of Mike Estell and Brian Chatterley in Saturday’s final.
