George retains European crown in fine style

INSTRUCTOR Kev Dorman heaped praise on his Thaitans Martial Arts Academy student George Rowand after he retained his European 41kg title on Aaron Jones’ Epic Awakening series show in Crewe.

Rowand, who has just turned 12, is now ranked one of the best juniors in the country at his age and weight with an excellent record of 28 wins from 34 fights.

He has trained at the Redditch club for six years and, if plans come to fruition, hopes to fight abroad in the near future.

Dorman said: “A huge well done to George. After not being in the ring for quite a while, his return was a huge fight.

“He was defending his European title on Aaron Jones’ Epic against a Belgian lad who had travelled to the UK hoping to claim George’s title.

“George really stepped up his training for this fight, sacrificing family time to train in the sport he loves.

“It certainly paid off as, from the start to the end of the fight, George showed skill and class in every area. He was out-kicking, outmanoeuvring the lad on the outside and totally dominated in the clinch. It was a clear victory to George who retained his European title.

“It’s such a pleasure and privilege to teach these kids who dedicate so much to the sport. George not only excels in the ring, but also carries that on to his academic studies as well.”
