REDDITCH Swimming Club men’s club captain Paul Wilkes achieved three podium finishes from as many races at the Swim England Masters Short Course Championships in Sheffield.

The competition saw swimmers between the ages of 18 to 80-plus competing to be crowned British champion. All races are contested in five-year age categories and Wilkes was joined by Redditch team-mate Laura Cranshaw in the 30-34 age group.

Wilkes won a bronze medal in a close 100m butterfly race before improving on this in the 100m breaststroke by winning a silver medal.

He then finished the weekend in fine style by claiming a gold medal and defending his British title in the 200m butterfly.

Ladies’ club captain Cranshaw also swam in three races – the 100m breaststroke and 50m freestyle in which she achieved two fifth placed finishes and the 100m individual medley in which she won a bronze medal.

In the process, she also gained two personal best times in the 100m races.
