Form pegs bring success in Redditch Federation Open

THE FORM pegs dominated in Saturday’s Redditch Federation Open on Arrow Valley Lake, although there was some reasonable sport to be had on other pegs as well.

First-time visitor Sean Little (Matrix) drew ‘sock-on’ on 55 and fished method all day with dead red maggot hookbait and caught steadily to finish with a winning all-bream bag of 69lb 10oz.

On the other current flyer, 69, lake expert Scott Poynton (Rive) was runner-up, falling one bream short of the winner with 67lb 4oz.

Poynton caught early to the floating island with five bream on method but then switched to pole fished pellet for the remainder of his all-bream catch.




Martin Hartle (Worcester) took third place with a pole-caught 29lb 6oz of skimmers and hybrids from peg 62, ahead of Mick Price (KDA) in fourth with 25lb 12oz on 60 and John Bushell (Arrow Valley) in fifth with 23lb 11oz on 56. Both of these were pole catches.

Ben Sutor (ABAC) followed in sixth with 20lb 7oz of bream from peg 64.


DARK LANE AC’s match on the River Arrow at Alcester on Saturday was won by Pete Lewis with 21lb 9oz.

Second was Barry Blewett with 19lb 5oz, third was Max Claridge with 13lb 5oz and section winners were Dave Gibbs (9lb 13oz) and Glyn Blewett (4lb 14oz).

The next day upstream at Coughton, the THROCKMORTON AC Open had 18 taking part and match secretary Phil O’Donnell won with a fine 16lb.

Glyn Blewett was second with 9lb 10oz, Pete Lewis third with 9lb 2oz and section winners were Andy Farmer (7lb 12oz) and Neil Rutter (5lb 10oz).

Seventeen anglers took part in the first Throckmorton AC Thursday evening Summer League round on the River Arrow at Coughton where Glyn Blewett won with 15lb 6oz.

Second was Tony Avery with 13lb 4oz, third was with Bob Dean with 7lb 11oz and section winners were Phil O’Donnell (7lb) and Barry Blewett (5lb 14oz).

FREDDY WALKER bagged two bream on the pole with a single red maggot to claim victory in Sunday’s ALCESTER TRADES & LABOUR AC match.

Following the experienced expert were runner-up Mark Sheeres who fished the pole and worm to net skimmers for 4lb 2oz and third placed Alan Bradshaw with 1lb 6oz of eel.

Section winners were Dan Adams and T Terry.
