REDDITCH UNITED scored four goals in a game for the first time this season to ease their relegation fears with a 4-2 win against Lowestoft Town.

Kieren Donnelly and Ryan Wollacott both struck in the opening 10 minutes for the Reds before Bernard Mensah scored his first first Reds goal.

United’s Thomas Rankin wrapped up the points late on after Joshua Wells and Jake Reed had struck for Lowestoft at the Trico Stadium.

The result means Redditch sit 13th in the Southern League Premier Central table, eight points clear of safety.

Matt Clarke’s side took the lead on six minutes when Donnelly placed an effort into the top-left corner as he ran onto Dan Sweeney’s low ball across the box.

And Redditch had their second goal on eight minutes when Wollacott rose highest to head home from Luke Rowe’s right wing corner.

Lowestoft reduced the deficit on 28 minutes when Wells’ driven shot was just out of the reach of Reds goalkeeper Kieran Boucher who was only able to get his fingertips to the ball.

However, Redditch restored their two-goal lead on 35 minutes when Mensah prodded home at the second attempt after his initial header was parried back into his path from Aram Soleman’s corner.

And the Reds almost wrapped up the points early in the second half only for Luke Rowe’s powerful effort to bounce down off the underside of the bar and onto the goal line before being cleared to safety.

Lowestoft then clawed themselves back into the contest when Reed curled the ball into the bottom right corner on 57 minutes from outside the penalty area.

Things became worse for Redditch when goalscorer Mensah was stretchered off the pitch with a back injury only for his replacement to complete a crucial Redditch victory.

Rankin curled a delightful effort into the right side of the goal on 89 minutes to restore Redditch’s two-goal lead to secure what could prove to be a vital three points in their quest for survival.

The Reds are next in action away at Nuneaton Borough tomorrow, Tuesday, March 1, with kick-off at 7.45pm at Liberty Way.
