FOOTBALL - Redditch United fight back to draw with Rushall

REDDITCH United twice came from behind to secure a 2-2 draw at Rushall Olympic and bring their two-game losing run to an end at Dales Lane.

Ryan Wollacott pulled Redditch level on 22 minutes after Daniel Glover’s bizarre long-range strike had given Rushall the lead.

United equalised for the second time on 86 minutes through Curtis Hutson’s stunning goal after Simeon Cobourne had restored Rushall’s lead.

The result leaves Redditch in 13th place in the Southern League Premier Division Central as they search for a first win in the league in almost one month.

Despite Redditch making a strong start, Rushall opened the scoring when Glover’s swerving effort from distance bounced in-front of United keeper Kieran Boucher and went in.

The visitors drew level when Hutson’s corner from the left was powered home by the head of Wollacott as United made their first-half pressure count.

Redditch came close to taking the lead when Tiago Nassuncolo broke clear down the right before cutting the ball back to Hutson who fired wide first-time on the volley.

The away side were made to pay for that missed opportunity when Cobourne deftly flicked the ball home at the near post from Callum Coyle’s right-wing cross on 27 minutes.

Rushall dominated the remainder of the half and almost created a two-goal cushion when Coyle’s attempted volley from just inside the penalty area hit the post.

Redditch started the second period on the front foot and were denied a leveller when Dan Sweeney’s header from a corner was kept out by Rushall keeper Thomas Palmer.

Matt Clarke’s side should have drawn level when a fine team move ended with Luke Cox crossing for Callum Niven who was denied by Palmer when one-on-one – until Hutson’s stunner secured a point.

The winger collected a loose ball near the left-hand edge of the Rushall penalty area before cutting in-field and unleashing a venomous shot that found the top right corner with four minutes left to play.

Redditch are in action again tonight as they travel to Boldmere St Michaels in the Birmingham Senior Challenge Cup with kick-off at 7:30pm.
