Draw for Studley on opening day

Redditch Editorial 25th Apr, 2019   0

STUDLEY began their quest for promotion from Warwickshire League Division Two with a losing draw at home to Coventry outfit RMCC.

The visitors batted first and were restricted to 210-9 having been well placed to post a bigger total when 149-2.

Once Zuhaib Akhlaque had been dismissed for 63 off 100 balls by Andy Rhodes (2-33), the innings lost some momentum as Dylan Smith’s 4-60 checked the visitors’ efforts.

Raheem Basharat’s 1-29 off ten was also vital in keeping Studley in the game, but hopes of pushing for victory were soon hit as the hosts slipped to 22-3 in reply.

Captain Jack Williams made a sprightly 38 as Studley hit back and after he was dismissed Basharat (47) and Chris Moss (41) put on 79 for the fifth wicket.

However, their partnership was steady rather than spectacular and, when both fell with the score on 151, it was left to Christopher Walden and Smith to ensure the home side closed on 170-6 off their 50 overs and picked up ten points for their efforts.

Studley head to Coventry side Pak Shaheen on Saturday.
