Double cup KO for White Hart

WHITE HART suffered quarter-final defeats in two Heart of England cup competitions last week.

The A team were heavily beaten 126-83 by RABL in the Over 60s Cup and, although five players achieved double-figure scores, the Redditch team failed to produce a single winner.

The B team were having to give away 30 shots to Hall Green B in the Over 60s Consolation Cup Handicap and the result was a disappointing one for them.

On a poor and difficult playing surface at Yardley Wood, White Hart struggled early on in the wet conditions and, although they had four winners – Mick Perrins 21-16, John Meredith 21-18, Sue Sugden and captain Brian Chatterley both 21-10 – the handicap proved too much for them and they were defeated by a nett score of 136-122.




White Hart A are facing relegation from the top flight of the HOE Thursday League and they are now 37 points from safety after a 157-117 defeat at Colebrook A.

They had three winning cards from Paul Matthews and Ray Richards, both 21-18, and Stephen Turner 21-16. White Hart B performed better, completing the double over Tanworth B in Division Four with a 167-100 success which included wins to single figures from Norman Batchelor 21-6, John Meredith 21-8, Dave Edwards and Gill Croft, both 21-9.


In the HOE Over 60s Friday League, White Hart A were narrowly beaten 103-97 in Division One by Kings Norton A. Again Hart had three winners – Tom Hawkes and Norman Batchelor, both 21-12, and Stephen Turner 21-16. They slip to eighth place but are well clear of the relegation zone.

The B team also tasted defeat at Bournville Sports, 126-85, and had no winners despite all the team reaching double-figure scores. They are also in a lower mid-table position in Division Two but again well clear of the drop zone.

In Northfield & District Sunday League, White Hart A moved to the top of Division Two with a fine 163-107 home win over Rubery Sheldon. Their seven winning cards were highlighted by victories to single figures from Norman Batchelor 21-6 and Mike Estell 21-9, while the B team had their lead at the top of Division Four cut to three points after a heavy defeat at British Oak B where Sue Sugden was their only winner.

White Hart also currently top Division Four of the Yardley Wood Superleague after whitewashing Henley B 168-77 with all eight winners. They lead RABL by one point, although the Northfield club have two games in hand.

In Warks/Worcs Premier League Division Six, White Hart have stretched their lead to seven points from Romsley & Hunnington after a clear 227-165 victory over Marston Green, including wins to single figures from Mike Estell 21-4, Mick Perrins 21-8 and Stuart Rice 21-9.

White Hart A beat Wythall A 106-77 in Division One of the SW Birmingham & District Over 60s League. Graham Arnott gave a near faultless performance in beating Clive Dolphin 21-3 and was well supported by Mick Perrins 21-11, Mike Estell 21-8 and captain Ian Humphreys 21-13.
