ST BEDE’S Catholic Middle School’s year eight basketball team won the District Championship for the second successive year thanks to an impressive series of results.
After beating Ipsley 15-12, Walkwood 72-11 and Woodrush 52-19, they qualified for the semi-finals, which were played before half-term.
In the last four, they beat a strong Birchensale team 44-13 to set up a final against Woodfield. In the final, the first quarter was relatively close as the teams sussed each other out.
However, some excellent executions at set plays and some fantastic passing and driving at the basket eventually set St Bede’s up to triumph 54-24 and retain their title.
The year eight team remain unbeaten this year. They finished in the top ten in the country last year and were crowned Midland champions, whilst they are still in the Jr NBA competition this year and have qualified for the Knockout stages.
Team members are Cameron C, Stan A, Charlie F, Tom C, Tom P, Oliver C, Eryk G, Jack N, Oliwier Z, Kristian K, Jay W, Matt S, Haydon B and Luke B.
