DANNY TRESIGNE shrugged off the bitterly cold conditions to claim victory in the eighth round of Alvechurch Fisheries’ Winter League on Saturday.

The wind blowing up the lake left the majority of anglers opting for tip and bomb tactics and, fishing off road peg 36, Tresigne, having rotated a number of tactics and baits, was struggling until a final switch to pole and maggot fished shallow out in front saw him pick off a number of carp up to 8lb boosted by stockies and silvers for 72.1 to win.

This left Ron Taylor on the opposite peg three in second place after opting for the bomb with popped up bread over a number of swims to also net carp to 8lb, switching to waggler and maggot to boost his final net of all-carp to 68.5.

Steve Bellion on peg 11 braved the wind to fish pole and bronze maggot, rotating five swims for his all-carp net of 59.7 and third place.

Trevor Hodges on peg 32 fished a pole and pellet attack over micro feed for his all-carp net of 54.1 to finish fourth and Tony Musticone on peg seven elected to fish waggler and maggot up to the rushes, switching to bomb out in front for his all-carp net of 49.9 to come fifth.

Paul Gartshore on peg five rotated pole and maggot attack over a number of lines for carp and stockies weighing 35.7 to complete the top six.

The final Winter League round takes place on Saturday, March 12 between 10.30am and 3.30pm.

THERE was a close match on the Horseshoe as Tony Taylor just held off the challenge of Paul Gartshore to win last week’s Thursday Open at the Bittell Road venue.

Taylor, on peg 30, edged out Gartshore, on peg three, at the weigh-in. Taylor opted for bomb and corn tactics switching to maggot up to the rushes to net a few carp and stockies to open up his win account with 58.4.

Second placed Gartshore rotated bomb and maggot out in front for his net of carp and stockies weighing 53.4.

Warren Beach on peg 26 alternated long pole up to the island with corn and maggot over a number of lines for an all-carp net of 38.7 to finish third.

In fourth place was Gary Clarke on peg 24 who fished long pole and maggot out in front and late down to the aerator for his mixed bag of carp weighing 34.6.

Rob Sweet on peg five rotated bomb and maggot over a number of swims for 33.11 to finish fifth and sixth was Les Ayres on peg one who fished long pole up to the aerator for his mixed bag of 25.10.

MEANWHILE, Alvechurch Fisheries has been awarded the Angling Times’ most recent Fishery in Form accolade.

EIGHTEEN anglers competed in Sunday’s Throckmorton AC match on the River Arrow at Coughton and the top weight was Mick Keen with 17lb 14oz.

Second was Andy Smith with 14lb 14oz, third was Phil O’Donnell with 14lb 4oz and section winners were Barry Blewett (12lb 5oz) and Paul Caswell (12lb 4oz).
