Church Reserves go top after superb victory

ALVECHURCH Reserves ended champions Gresley’s unbeaten start to the season to move top of the Midland League Reserves Division table with a convincing 4-1 home win, writes Lewis Glennon.

Previous leaders Gresley took the lead through Kane Lee’s header at Illey Lane but they were always second best to a Alvechurch side who chalked up a fourth win in row.

Elliot Nash equalised just before half-time for his fifth goal of the season and Oliver Hartill’s side made their dominance count scoring two goals in a minute in the second period, courtesy of Dean Fisher and Ethan Hanks. Hanks then got his second goal of the game.

With the game all but over, Gresley’s James Hemingway was red-carded after a foul on Nash.

Alvechurch visit bottom side Lichfield City Reserves tomorrow (Saturday).

Having beaten Lichfield 8-1 in a pre-season friendly, the Reserves will be confident off claiming a fifth win in a row.
