TWO talented tennis players are being given the chance to chase their dreams thanks to the generosity of a local businesswoman.
Nationally ranked duo Alex Maggs and Felix Gill of Redditch HDA Tennis Club are benefiting from the support of Debbie Pegler, who is a long-standing sponsor of tennis in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
The pair compete at national and international level and both are ranked eighth in Great Britain – Maggs at U16s level and Gill at U14s.
Herefordshire & Worcestershire Lawn Tennis Association has a crop of talented youngsters across its age groups but the demands to compete at the highest level are high.
Maggs, 15, and Gill, 14, spend upwards of 15 hours a week on court honing their skills and travel huge distances both in the UK and Europe to compete.
“This is an excellent opportunity for me to get involved and help local tennis players who are showing great potential to progress and achieve their goals in 2017,” said Debbie.
“Alex and Felix are doing so well. They can be a great inspiration to younger children who want to take up the sport, whether it is competitively or recreationally.”
Her backing reflects the many hours of practice and commitment the pair have put in over the years.
“This fantastic support from Debbie will help Alex and Felix continue to develop their potential and with hard work they can both keep improving at a national and international level,” said their coach Tony Ravenscroft.
“Herefordshire & Worcestershire LTA is thrilled that Alex and Felix are doing so well and that this sort of local sponsorship is helping them achieve their goals.”
The Pegler name has been synonymous with tennis in the county as they have supported The Pegler Herefordshire & Worcestershire County Closed Championships over the last four years.
