TWO new faces have taken the helm at Redditch Golf Club as the Lower Grinsty Lane club prepares for a busy 2018.

Brent Robinson has taken over from Kevin Creighton as club captain and Elaine Ostroumoff replaces Joy Mutton as lady captain.

Robinson steps up as captain having served on the greens and house committee and as house chairman from 2014-17.

He moved to Redditch in 1974 to join the staff at The Leys High School and was director of studies at Trinity High School, Redditch, from 2000-2008.

Robinson has been a magistrate since 1995 and is currently chairman of Worcestershire Magistrates’ Association.

Robinson, who joined the club in 1987, said: “Redditch Golf Club has a very friendly membership which is served by a brilliant course, clubhouse and admin staff who are always prepared to put themselves out for the benefit of the club.

“The members enjoy a superb course which continues to get better every year. Professional golfers who play in the Bridgestone qualifier, which Redditch will host for the third time in 2018, are always highly complimentary about the course.

“I would like to see Redditch Golf Club continue to develop to make it even more enjoyable for both members and visitors and establish itself as one of the foremost golf clubs in the Midlands.”

Ostroumoff was born in Redditch and worked as a sales director at a wire manufacturing company in Birmingham before retiring in 2017.

She said: “I have been playing golf for ten years and I am very honoured to be lady captain of Redditch Golf Club.”

During her year as captain, she wants to see an increase in membership in both the junior girls’ section and the ladies’ section of the club.

“If ladies are looking to increase their fitness, then think about golf. You walk around three to four miles per round and also make new friends. This is a great club to be involved in,” added Ostroumoff.

“Not only do we have a superb, friendly ladies’ section, we also have great social events and mixed bridge classes and we are hosting a Ladies Fashion Show on April 21 to raise funds for our joint captains charity for 2018 – the Alzheimer’s Society.”
