BRAC take ninth spot at West Midlands Cross Country meeting

BROMSGROVE and Redditch Athletics club secured ninth place overall at the final of the West Midlands Young Athletes Cross Country meeting in Wolverhampton on Sunday.

After all the age group points were added together, BRAC managed to finish in the top half of the rankings which featured 20 teams.

The best individual result of the day went to Finnan Roberts who claimed third in the 1.6km under-11 Boys race with Pjus Tvaxdauskus coming in fourth.

Nathan Sanders crossed the line in 25th while Sam Godfrey was further afield in 91st.




In the under-11 Girls race Lucy Hatfield finished as the highest ranked BRAC member after finishing eighth.

Fellow runners Amelie Rangers and Sophie Evans ended in 60th and 68th place respectively.


The 2.5km under-13 Boys race was good running for Joshua Roberts who came home in fourth (second overall) while Joe Cunliffe came in 20th place, George Goodwin in 23rd, Finton Hutt in 24th and Harry Williams in 68th.

Natalie Hatfield finished as best BRAC member in the under-13 girls event, crossing the line in 35th place.

Sophie Groom took 35th place, Esme Rangers claimed 44th while Louise Osborne (78th), Quincy Roberts (94) and Lauren Sykes (95) were lower down the order.

Anna Nicod was the only BRAC representative in the 3.2km under-15 girls’ race, coming home in a respectable 16th place while Joseph Hamilton ran well to come fifth in the under-15 boys’ event ahead of Harrison Mayne (44th) and Joseph Keyte (70th).

There were three top-20 finishes in the 4.8km under-17s Women race with Amy Caldwell crossing the line in eighth, Ellen Bowen in 11th and Chelsea Wright in 15th.

Elsewhere, Gareth Richards lead the way for BRAC in the under-17 Men’s with his 15th placed finish.

Meanwhile the final Birmingham Division One race was ran at the University of Warwick on a testing and undulating course which had very slippery mud and climbs.

Despite BRAC recording their best score of the season, it did not stop them from getting relegated to Division Two.

Connor Smith was the highest finishing BRAC member in 22nd while Redditch resident Joe Smith took 13th to help Tipton to fourth on the day and fifth overall.

BRAC Results: Malcolm Duff – 108th, Calvin Scotlock – 143rd, Ian Keyte – 145th, Kevin Lankcham – 154th, Tom Richardson – 159th, Tom Smith – 171st, Matthew Henney – 183rd, Paul Atkins – 221st, James Dancyger – 224th, Ian Nutter – 238th, Philip Anderson – 241st, Carl Grinnel – 251st.

Sally Hogan led the way for BRAC in the Midlands Women’s Cross Country League Division Two fixture at the University of Warwick.

Hogan starred with a fifth-place finish over the 7.8km course while Tamara Freeman was 17th, followed by Miriam Strbakova (122nd) and Dagmar Prinzing (123rd) as the team finished fourth overall.

The team is back in action on Saturday in the Gloucestershire Cross Country League at Pittville Park in Cheltenham.
