BOWLS - White Hart claim seven victories across teams in impressive week

WHITE Hart Crown Green Bowling Club claimed seven wins in an impressive showing across their respective teams.

The narrowest of those wins came in the Warwick and Worcester Premier League Division Four as Hart tasted victory for the first time this season at home against Raven.

Mike Estell (21-7), David Mahaffey (21-15) and Norman Batchelor (21-15) all produced winning cards to hand Hart an 11-shot lead at the halfway point.

And second half wins from Rick Horton (21-13) and Mike Hancock (21-20) put the home team in command only for two low scores to bring Raven back into the contest.




However, Kirk Wright won the final tie 21-12 to make the final score 166-all with Hart’s six winning cards to Raven’s four seeing them take seven points from the fixture and a much-needed victory.

In the Heart of England League Division Two, White Hart A exacted revenge on Wythall with a full house of winners on their home green.


Pete Davenport (21-7), Cameron Cutler (21-3), Paul Matthews (21-10) and David Mahaffey (21-15) put Hart into an 84-35 lead.

And further wins for Neil Laxton (21-5), Steve Jones (21-19), Ray Barnett (21-20) and captain Wright (21-10) made the final score 168-89 as Hart took 18 points from the fixture to move level with Moseley CC at the top of the table.s

White Hart B failed to find a winner on a difficult green at Solihull Marsh Lane in Division Three as Gill Croft almost gave the visitors a point, losing by a single shot.

In the Northfield and District Sunday League, White Hart A remain top of Division Two although their lead has been cut to four points after suffering a 143-126 away to Hall Green.

Hart produced just two winning cards from Matthews (21-11) and Hancock (21-6).

Elsewhere, White Hart B ran out comfortable 148-116 winners at home to Central Edgbaston with victories for Sheila Humphreys (21-11), John Meredith (21-12), Tony Buckley (21-9), Neil Harrison (21-1) and captain Phil Hemming (21-20).

In the Yardley Wood Superleague Division Two, White Hart A thrashed British Oak B 167-105 at home as they dropped just one point in the process.

Wins for Laxton (21-15), Hemming (21-9), Mick Perrins (21-18), Croft (21-8), Ian Humphreys (21-18) and captain Wright (21-4) lifts the Redditch club up to fourth place in the table.

However, Hart’s B team were no match for Hall Green B as the visitors produced two winning cards through Meredith (21-7) and Buckley (21-18) in a 151-97 defeat.

In the Heart of England Over 60’s league Division One, White Hart secured a nail-biting 102-99 three-shot win at Wythall.

Hart were well-placed after first-half wins for Graham Arnott (21-7) and Laxton (21-12) whilst Wright scored 18 in his match to hand Hart a 60-40 lead.

And despite Batcehlor (21-17) adding to Hart’s total the win was not secured until Mick Estell gained enough shots in a difficult final tie as Hart came away with 12 valuable points.

Remarkably, White Hart B also battled their way to a three-shot home win against College Arms B in Division Two at the same time.

Hart trailed by seven shots after the first three cards before a 21-10 win for I Humphreys put the home side into a four-shot lead as Buckley’s 21-15 success secured their first win of the season.

In the SW Birmingham and District Over 60’s League Division One, White Hart A suffered a disappointing defeat to bottom side Olton Tavern A.

A poor first half showing without a single winner left them 28 shots behind as three second-half wins from Laxton (21-12), Batchelor (21-20) and captain Wright (21-14) closed the gap to 109-98 as Hart claimed three points to move out of the relegation zone.

Lastly, in the SW Birmingham and District League Division Three, White Hart defeated Rubery SJC 115-89 at home with winning cards from Croft (21-15), S Humphreys (21-14), Buckley (21-10) and captain Hancock (21-8).
