Black Horse in pole position for Premier crown

Redditch Editorial 28th Apr, 2015 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

BLACK Horse took complete command at the top of the Redditch & South Warwickshire Premier Division with two victories over the past week which leaves them with a four-point advantage over second placed Austin Ex-Apprentices with two matches remaining.

The leaders followed their 3-1 midweek victory over Wychbold RBL in which Dale Edwards struck twice with a thumping 6-1 win over big rivals Church Hill in which Dan Carter and Steven Roche both bagged braces.

Black Horse, runners-up last season, now just require victory against either South Redditch or Austin to clinch the title.

There was a dramatic day in the race for the Division One crown as the top two both lost to blow the title race wide open again.

Matty Layton has earned himself the label of ‘title dream destroyer’ as, for the second week running, he scored a match-winning hat trick for Alcester Town to dent title hopefuls CBH Fasteners’ chances in a 3-1 victory.

Leaders Millfield Rovers took a first half lead at home to lowly Beoley Village, but super sub Louie O’Connor was introduced at half time, equalised on the hour mark and then won the game 2-1 in the 88th minute with his second.

Alvechurch Sunday are hunting down the leading pack and Brogan Halpin’s two goals were the difference in a 4-2 victory over SHTP, whilst Rocklands moved back into second as Jamie Gifford scored twice in a 3-2 win over Lodge Park RA.

In Division Two, OKH Sporting Dynamo have it all to do on Sunday as only a win will do at home to Abbeydale in the race for the title after Sporting Club Redditch did all they could in defeating wooden spoon winners VKL United 13-1 as Shaun Maynard finished the season with six more goals to his season tally.
