Below-par Alvechurch exit FA Cup

Redditch Editorial 15th Oct, 2020   0

ALVECHURCH saw their FA Cup run ended in disappointing fashion as they produced a hugely frustrating display in losing 1-0 at Ilkeston Town on Tuesday.

Church had impressed in reaching the third qualifying round and have also enjoyed an upturn in their Southern Premier Central campaign with successive victories, but they struggled to get their passing game going and suffered a deserved exit due to a fine 25-yard strike from Ollie Brown-Hill early in the second half.

Alvechurch skipper Jamie Willets tweeted: “Can only apologise on behalf of the team. Shocking performance and fully deserved to be knocked out. Please keep the faith. Up the Church.”

Northern Premier League Division One South East high-flyers Ilkeston will now host National League pace-setters Hartlepool United in the fourth qualifying round a week on Saturday, whilst Alvechurch will look to bounce back when they visit Biggleswade Town in the league on Saturday.
