Bank start to motor in league and cup

ASTWOOD BANK bagged their first victory of the Birmingham League Division Three season as they defeated hosts Handsworth by 34 runs on Saturday.

The star of the show was captain Steve Adshead whose superb 106 off just 78 balls guided the visitors to 218-7 off their 50 overs.

Adshead’s knock contained ten fours and four sixes and was crucial as only opener Alex Robinson (30) provided support.

The visitors reduced the Birmingham side to 60-4 but a breezy 85 from Kamau Leverock threatened to turn the match on its head.

However, once Leverock had been caught and bowled by Mike Desmond (3-22), the hosts were unable to recover and Ryan Blakemore (4-37) helped Bank dismiss the home side for 184 inside 45 overs.

BANK enjoyed an 85-run victory over visitors Kempsey in the National Village Cup Worcestershire Group quarter-final on Sunday.

The home side were dismissed for 143 in the 39th over as Tom Pedley and Sam Thomas (both 34) top scored.

The total proved more than enough as only two visiting batsmen could make double figures.

Andrzej Jagielski took 2-10, Desmond 2-6, Dan Taylor 3-9 and Thomas 2-8.

Dumbleton will be Bank’s opponents in the Worcestershire semi-finals on May 28.
