WITH nominations now open and already being received for the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Sports Awards 2015, organisers are delighted to announce that Gail Emms MBE will be the keynote speaker at the awards evening at Sixways.

Emms won a silver medal at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games with her badminton mixed doubles partner Nathan Robertson, which was the pinnacle of a hugely successful career which also saw her claim World Championships mixed doubles gold in Madrid in 2006.

During a dominant period in the sport Emms also won consecutive Commonwealth Games titles in the mixed team and mixed doubles events and successive European Championships gold medals in the mixed doubles and women’s doubles between 2002 and 2006.

Having retired from badminton after the Beijing Olympics in 2008, Emms made a long-awaited return to the sport in October 2014 and she has continued her starring role for Team Derby in the National Badminton League.

Since Beijing, Emms has become the face and voice of badminton, undertaking broadcasting and commentary roles for the sport.

A Sports Awards spokesperson said: “As an ambassador for badminton and women within sport, Gail Emms is a truly phenomenal personality, athlete and mentor to the sporting world and we are delighted she will be joining us at the prestigious awards ceremony on Wednesday, November 4.
