FORMER Arrow Vale Academy pupil Matthew Griffin has been selected for the Great Britain Juniors athletics team.

The 18-year-old competed at the Loughborough International where he finished second in the 110m hurdles in a career best time of 13.91 seconds.

The teenager hopes to compete at the World Junior Championships in Colombia later this year and starts a degree at Loughborough University in September.

Griffin is ranked number one in the UK over 110m hurdles and his time edged him closer to the World Juniors qualifying mark of 13.6 secs.

He completed his A levels in 2021 and took a year out of his studies to concentrate on his athletics training.

Griffin competed for Bromsgrove and Redditch AC from the age of 11 and was coached by Ipsley Academy’s Head of PE Paul Gripton before moving to Birchfield Harriers to gain more top level competition experience.

His next target is to compete at the England age group Championships in Bedford before he races in Mannheim, Germany as he tries to achieve the World Junior standard for later in the season.
