Astwood Bank seeking boost to end winless run

Redditch Editorial 1st Jun, 2018   0

ASTWOOD BANK will be looking to halt a three-match losing run when they travel to Fordhouses tomorrow (Saturday) in the Birmingham League Second Division.

A five-wickets defeat to C&R Hawks meant Steve Adshead’s side slipped into the bottom two.

Hawks won the toss and put Bank into bat but wickets fell at regular intervals, despite opener Tom Pedley hitting 32.

Sam Thomas top-scored with 48 off 73 balls and Tom Underhill (20) and Tom Sheppard (26) also contributed at they finished on 173-7 off 49 overs.

Nadeem Akram took three for 25, from 12 overs, for the visitors.

A half-century from Valeed Butt (51) and 36 from Omar Ali gave Hawks the solid start they needed to get to 73 for one and they cantered to a five-wicket win with 18 overs to spare.

Dan Taylor (2-46) and Joel Haslam (2-26) both took two wickets for Bank.

Astwood Bank Seconds went down to a six-wickets defeat at Ombersley in 2nd XI Division One.

Bank totalled 111-7 off 48 overs, led by 29 from Connor Adams, and Ombersley reached their target in the 35th over. Andrzej Jagielski took 3-38 off his 16 overs.

The Thirds’ match at Halesowen in the Worcestershire County League Division Four was abandoned without a ball being bowled, while the Fourths had to settle for a losing draw against Bromyard in 2nd XI Division Three.

Bromyard hit 186-6 but Bank held on a 105-9, led by skipper Martin Ward’s 25.
