Alvechurch Reserves left to wait in race for title

Redditch Editorial 3rd May, 2018   0

ALVECHURCH Reserves will now have to play a waiting game to see if they can claim the first part of a potential league and cup double, reports Lewis Glennon.

Oliver Hartill’s side followed a 6-0 success against Lichfield City on Saturday with a 1-0 win at home to Knowle on Tuesday and sit top of the Midland League Reserve Division.

Their league campaign is now finished but Gresley – who face Alvechurch in the Challenge Trophy final on May 12 at Lye Meadow – lie eight points behind with three games to play.

On Tuesday, Dean Fisher’s cracking strike provided the winner against Knowle at Illey Lane.

The Church were frustrated by the visitors, with Fisher hitting the post with a cross, while Jon Williams headed over from a corner.

The second half was more of the same, with substitutes Lewis Jones and Brogan Haplin both firing over. However, with three minutes remaining, Fisher broke the deadlock with a stunning strike. Picking the ball up 25 yards from goal, he turned a Knowle midfielder before firing the ball into the top corner.

On Saturday, Daniel Priest’s first goal for the club opened the scoring against Lichfield with a 25-yard strike.

Fisher doubled the lead with a penalty after he was fouled by Lichfield defender Callum Spittle and Luke Oakley got the third, after good work by Daniel Lawrence, just before half-time.

Hartill’s side continue to dominate the second period. Oakley grabbed his second goal of the game to make it 4-0, before two late goals from Fisher and Jevaughni Robinson completed the rout.
