All to play for as season draws to a close

Redditch Editorial 13th Apr, 2015 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

IT WAS another great weekend of action in the Redditch & South Warwickshire Combination and in the Premier Division three clubs are still in contention for top spot.

Black Horse continued their four-pronged attack on honours this season by moving to within two points of the top with two games in hand courtesy of a 7-0 home victory over Hizza United in which Dan Carter scored five of the goals.

Rubery Bridge moved up to third place with a 2-0 home win over Wychbold RBL.

In Division Two, the title race is a lot clearer after the top two played their penultimate league games.

OKH Sporting Dynamo retain top spot after both Nash and Jackson scored twice in a 6-0 victory over visitors Redditch Cross, whilst it elsewhere it was the Joe Shaw show as he scored four in Sporting Club Redditch’s 5-1 victory at Abbeydale.

The title race picture is clear as, should OKH win their final game at home to Abbeydale, the Division Two trophy will be theirs, however, with goal difference on their side, Sporting Club will win the title if they beat bottom of the table VKL United and OKH fail to win. Both games will be played on April 26.

In Division One, the roller-coaster season continues. CBH Fasteners went in at half time 1-0 down to second placed hosts Rocklands, who led with a Jamie Gifford goal, but the leaders recovered to lead through Nathan Davies and Lukas Eilberg until a Dean Hay equaliser on 83 minutes saw the points shared in a 2-2 draw.

Aaron Brough and Tobias Teague both scored hat-tricks as SHTP thrashed visitors Beoley Village 10-0 to move into third place, whilst Alcester Town failed to field a side away at fourth placed Millfield Rovers.

Alvechurch Sunday still have an outside chance of the league title after an entertaining 6-5 win at bottom club Lodge Park RA.

Alvechurch took an early lead before Lodge Park took control of the game to lead 5-3 with ten minutes remaining after Terry Nolan had completed his hat-trick.

However, Brogan Halpin proved to be the match-winner with four goals as Alvechurch completed a remarkable turnaround by scoring the winner in the last minute.
