Alcester take satisfaction despite curtailment of season

Redditch Editorial 4th Apr, 2020   0

FOLLOWING the RFU’s decision to call an early end to the 2019/20 season for all leagues below the Premiership, Alcester are at least able to look back at the campaign with some satisfaction.

If current league standings are taken, Alcester 1st XV will have narrowly avoided relegation from Midlands Three West (South), whilst the 2nds sit proudly top of Warwickshire League Three.

However, Alcester are still awaiting official comment from the RFU about how the season will play out and for final confirmation of league results.

The junior season has also come to an end, but it finished on a high for the club.

Sam Young, Spencer Ellis, Jack Williams, Oli Pittaway, Finlay Brookes, Joey Wheeler, Chay Pusey, Owen Linnett and Dom Roadley from Alcester’s U15s were selected for the South Warwickshire district squad.

Pusey, Brookes, Wheeler and Pittaway played in a fixture against Shropshire at Worcester Warriors’ Sixways Stadium in which Pittaway scored.

In more good news, seven players from the U13s were selected for the Worcester Warriors Developing Player Programme following trials in January.

Alcester congratulate Toby Magnall, Harry Wright, Harry Williams, Will Preston, Josh Williams, Dan Hayes and Devon Simpson who made it on to the scheme.

These players join Noah Ellis and Harley Turner (U14s) and Oliver Burgess-Hayes from the U15s already on the programme.

The club wish our friends and the local community a safe passage through these difficult times.

The Standard thanks Amy Flynn for her contributions throughout the campaign.
