Alcester fight hard but losing streak continues

Ledbury 21 Alcester 14

Midlands Three West (South)

A DEPLETED Alcester fell to their sixth consecutive league defeat after losing at Ledbury on Saturday.

The visitors were short on numbers again, only taking the bare 15 players with no extras for substitutions.

It was a relatively quiet first half in which Mat Ashby missed a penalty kick for Alcester and Max Biltcliffe was shown a yellow card at the end of the first half.

The home side took a 3-0 lead into half-time and a converted try and a penalty extended the advantage in the second half.

Tries from Jack Green and Biltcliffe – both skilfully converted by Ashby – put Alcester in front for the first time at 14-13 but Ledbury replied with with another try and penalty to edge in front.

Despite Ledbury picking up two yellow cards and Alcester upping the pressure, the visitors only managed to come away with the losing bonus point.

Alcester will take a break from league action this weekend to meet Stratford’s 2nd XV in a friendly at Loxley Road.

Their next league game will be at home to Old Leamingtonians on March 21.

Alcester 2nds were well and truly beaten by Bromsgrove Veterans in a friendly fixture on Saturday, going down 46-17.

Alcester’s try-scorers were Matt Jupp, Rupert Daffern and Scott McGee, with Sam Bosley adding a single conversion.

This Saturday, the 2nds play in another friendly fixture at home against Claverdon 2nds.
