ALCESTER Bowling Club’s crown green team travelled to Romsley & Hunnington to take on the hosts’ A team in Northfield League Division Three and a relatively close match provided four winners for each side, but the home team’s winners were by the greater margin, giving them a 20-shot overall success.
Alcester’s winning cards came from Ken Harvey (21-16), Dave Hovell (21-19), John Alderson and Jean Bannister (both 21-20).
In the S&W Birmingham Over 60s League Division Seven, Alcester A visited Ye Olde Knowle D and recorded another win, this time by 33 shots.
They did have a losing card for the first time this season, but the five winners saw them home to pick up 11 points.
Successful were Ken Harvey – in devastating form at 21-4 – Renny Bannister (21-12), Jean Bannister (21-13), Margaret D’Elia (21-14) and Carole Slater (21-20).
In the same Division, Alcester B produced their first win of the season with a 19-shot success at home to West Midland Transport B.
Leading the way for the home side was Red Masterson (21-11) – well supported by Christine Anderson, John Williamson and Cedric Robertshaw (all 21-14) – to give Alcester eight points to two for the visitors.
Alcester suffered a heavy 57-shot defeat when the A team visited Hockley Heath A in Yardley Wood League Division One. Alcester managed just one winner in the shape of Renny Bannister (21-20).
Division Two of the Heart of England League saw Alcester A entertain Woodbourne A and winning cards from Renny Bannister and John Slater (both 21-13), John Alderson (21-14), Peter Barber (21-19) and Carole Slater (21-20) gave Alcester a 13-shot win to collect 15 points.
The over 60s section of the Heart of England League saw Alcester A visit Kings Norton A, but only two winners came Alcester’s way, with success for Renny Bannister (21-17) and Ken Harvey (21-18) in this 31-shot defeat, which produced just two league points.
The final match of the week found Alcester B hosting Kings Norton B in Division Five and excellent cards from John Willis (21-6), David Hodgson (21-7) and Val McDermott (21-8) – supported by David Whittington (21-13) – gave Alcester 14 points in this 28-shot win.
