Redditch Astronomical Society: Writers sought for 'out of this world' poetry

REDDITCH Astronomical Society and Rubery poet Spoz, aka Giovanni Esposito, have teamed up for an ‘out of this world’ writing celebration.

The Astrophysical Poetry Slam will feature up to 15 writers all performing their space-themed pieces in a competition to see who will be crowned ‘Star for the Night’.

The event will appeal to stargazers, Sky at Night fanatics and Dr Sam Illingworth’s ‘Use poetry to share your science’.

Poets are now being sought for the night which takes place at Bromsgrove’s Artrix from 7.30pm to 10.30pm next Friday, March 13.




Interested writers should email [email protected] if they want to enthral an audience of astronomers and poetry lovers with a poetic work about Space, Astronomy and the Universe.

The best six will be chosen by the audience can then compete to take home a £50 prize.


Spoz, Birmingham’s 2006 Poet Laureate and ceaseless promoter of written and performed poetry, is set to sprinkle stardust on the proceedings as the spoken word and space is celebrated.

Art Exhibition

Redditch Astronomical Society, with support from the Royal Astronomical Society, has an en exhibition of space-inspired work at Bromsgrove’s Artrix from today until April 5.

The work has been created by national artists and local amateur astronomy societies.
