Work continues apace at the Moons Moat scheduled historic monument site in Church Hill

WORK is continuing apace at the Moons Moat scheduled historic monument site in Church Hill.

Scrub surrounding the medieval moated manor house has been cut back, rubbish removed from the moat itself and a fence built to denote the site and as a guard against the steep banks. A bulb planting day is also planned.

The project is backed by Church Hill Big Local, Redditch Borough Council and North Worcestershire Water Management.

“Our next activity is a bulb planting day organised by Church Hill Big Local for local first schools on Wednesday, November 7, at the Moat,” said Derek Coombes, acting chair of the Moons Moat Conservation Group.

“We have launched a crowdfunding appeal on the Just Giving site and next month we also plan to hold a public meeting to launch our activities for 2019 and to seek the views of local residents and community groups.

“We hope those interested in supporting us will come along.”

It’s remarkable progress for a site which was hidden for centuries and even with the development of the new town lay largely untouched.

“Six months after we launched our 10-year plan we are pleased to say the majority of the 2018 activities have been completed or are scheduled to be actioned before the year end,” added Derek.
