Worcestershire Children First are celebrating everyday people this Care Leavers Week and raising awareness of the challenges facing young adults leaving care.
Every October during Care Leavers Week Worcestershire Children First shine a spotlight on the struggles, resilience and achievements of former looked after children.
The Worcestershire Care Leavers service supports over 700 young people aged 16-25 with a team of Personal Advisers on hand to try and enable young people to achieve their dreams and celebrate their successes.
‘Celebrating Everyday People’ has been chosen this year’s theme.
Worcestershire Care Leavers are journalists, film makers, nurses, roofers, parents, academics and every day there are success which should be celebrated; getting into college, passing a driving test, learning to cook, managing a tenancy to name a few.
Councillor Andy Roberts, cabinet member with responsibility for Children and Families at Worcestershire County Council said, “We are incredibly proud of our young care leavers in Worcestershire.
“Despite often facing the challenges that come with transitioning to adulthood without family support networks in place, we see a range of successes every day from our care leavers.
“Care Leavers Week is a good reminder to us all to celebrate the successes that might seem more ordinary.”
National Care Leavers week runs from 25th-29th October 2021.
