We're listening: Labour leader Bill Hartnett takes to streets of Redditch

FLY tipping and overgrown hedges and trees were top of the issues when Councillor Bill Hartnett held a ‘street surgery’ in Exhall Close, Church Hill.

Exhall is the biggest close in the county and residents took the opportunity to let the leader of the Labour group on Redditch borough council know their feelings.

“Fly tipping is all over Redditch and Church Hill is no exception but we’re fortunate in that when we know about it the council is pretty efficient at getting it cleared away,” said Coun Hartnett.

Other concerns included over grown trees and hedges, parking problems and loose drain covers.

“Redditch like other councils up and down the country have had major cuts to their central government grant by this Conservative administration which can make it difficult to do the work required,” said Coun Hartnett, adding that he would push to get the issues raised by residents dealt with.

The street surgery concept is part of a more informal initiative developed by Labour which runs in addition to Coun Hartnett’s normal monthly surgeries.
