Voluntary service to help Redditch's elderly get to hospital

Redditch Editorial 7th Sep, 2017   0

ELDERLY Redditch residents struggling to get to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for appointments, can make use of Royal Voluntary Service community drivers.

The scheme, which is part of Community Travel Worcestershire, is available for seniors who pay their council tax to Redditch.

The journeys can be for social, welfare, recreational or educational reasons – as well as medical – if they are unable to go due to mobility problems or lack of suitable transport.

A similar scheme exists for those living close to Redditch but who pay their council tax to Bromsgrove.

The news comes as Worcestershire County Council gears up to launch a pilot transport initiative between Redditch and Worcester based on the RVS model.

Called ‘Community Transport Connections’ it will provide transport for people in Redditch, Worcester and the rural areas between to get to the Alexandra and Worcestershire Royal hospitals.

Redditch RVS operates from 9.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday – call 01527 879290, for Bromsgrove call 01527 879290.
