Travellers moved in Abbeydale after causing 'serious issues' in the community

Redditch Editorial 26th Jun, 2020   0

TRAVELLERS have been moved on from Abbeydale after reportedly causing ‘serious issues’ in the community.

Redditch Borough Council worked with local police to serve the occupants pitched on a field, near Terry’s Close, a Section 61 notice.

Once they had left council leader Matt Dormer spearheaded a litter pick operation.

He said: “The travellers had caused a number of serious issues in the local community and had left the field in a disgraceful state.

“The travellers attempted to relocate to Church Hill but local Conservative councillors were quick on the scene again and were able to have them escorted off before they set down.

“Massive thanks to the local community and deputy leader of the council Mike Rouse who joined us for the clean up operation.”

Labour councillor Pattie Hill was quick to point out that she too worked to ensure the travellers moved on and it was not just the local Tory party.

She said: “As a county councillor for Arrow Valley West, which includes Abbeydale, I worked with council officers to ensure the travellers were moved and I did it without ‘self-boasting publicity’.

“It is the responsibility of landowners to liaise with both councils and police.

“It is a council responsibility to ascertain why the travellers have stopped on land and made sure welfare checks were made due to Covid-19.”
