Top portfolio for council Leader Matt Dormer at County Hall

Redditch Editorial 29th May, 2021   0

THE Leader of Redditch Borough Council has been given the communities portfolio at County Hall.

It means Councillor Matt Dormer, who won the county Arrow Valley East seat in the local elections of May 6, as well as retaining his West ward on the borough council, moves straight into a Worcestershire cabinet post.

His new responsibilities cover areas like libraries, open spaces and community organisations.

As well as his two council posts Coun Dormer also heads Dormer Plant Hire on Hewell Road and is a watch commander for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.

He also has meetings with the West Midlands Combined Authority, of which Redditch is a non-constituent member.

A previous critic of County Hall’s perceived lack of interest in Redditch he said his view changed when he showed county leader Coun Simon Geraghty around the town.

“I had a really good chat with Simon and he really understood our vision for the town and that’s probably when I decided to stand for election,” said Coun Dormer.

“I just decided I was better off working within the county rather than criticising from without.

“Redditch did well at the elections and I think it was only right that of the eight county councillors we returned someone should be a portfolio holder and I’m privileged it was me.

“I love my family and this town and I’m lucky that I have good people working at the business.

“It’s about serving this town and I just want to see it get better.”
