Time running out to have your say on Redditch's new tenancy agreement

Redditch Editorial 7th Sep, 2019   0

THERE’S just one week left for people to have their say on Redditch Borough Council’s proposed new tenancy agreement, the contract that applies to anyone renting a home from the council.

The updated agreement is designed to set out and reinforce tenants’ rights and responsibilities in detail.

Councillor Craig Warhurst, the Borough Council’s portfolio holder for housing, said: “This is an important document and you don’t have to be a tenant to take part.

“I would encourage anyone with an interest in council housing or their community to take the opportunity to say whether you find it easy to follow and read, whether it was clear and helpful, and so on.

“Any issues people raise may then be ironed out before the council’s executive committee sits down to consider formally adopting it, set for October.”

Coun Matt Dormer, Leader of the Council, added: “Housing is just the latest area where the council is communicating more clearly than ever the simple, commonsense rules that are in place for everyone’s benefit.

“We think our new tenancy agreement does this and we want to listen to what people have to say about it before we adopt it.”

The new 27-page draft of the ‘Housing Tenancy Conditions and Agreement’ features updated language on how council homes can be used, when and why written permissions are required for certain activities, technical definitions including for health and safety and anti-social behaviour, parking, chargeable works, and more.

Take part in the online survey at www.redditchbc.gov.uk/consultations or if you are unable to complete it online please contact the borough council for a paper copy on 01527 64252.

The survey closes at 9am on Monday, September 16.
