WEST Mercia Police is supporting National Volunteers Week which seeks to celebrate and recognise police volunteers across Redditch and the rest of the UK.
From June 1 to 7 the force will be highlighting some of the fantastic work undertaken by volunteers at West Mercia Police who contribute an enormous amount to policing.
Chief Superintendent Kevin Purcell said: “Our volunteers are people who are passionate about policing. They provide essential resources that offer the force a heightened ability to tackle crime and protect our communities from harm.
“Whether that’s as a Neighbourhood Watch coordinator, Special Constable, volunteer police cadet, independent custody visitor volunteer or a police support volunteer.”
From April 2018 to March 2019 West Mercia Police volunteers contributed an astonishing 76,800 hours to the force.
Mr Purcell added: “They make up an incredibly important and highly valued section of our workforce, dedicating an overwhelming amount of their time to help their local policing teams.”
Police and Crime Commissioner, John Campion said: “Volunteering within and alongside the police not only helps people to build their own skills and confidence, but helps to build safer communities for everyone.
“It’s important we take time to recognise and celebrate the huge difference these people make.”
