This week's editor's comment: 'Nasty Party' returns after school meals vote

Redditch Editorial 24th Oct, 2020   0

IT’S disappointing to find that neither Redditch MP Rachel Maclean nor Stratford’s Nadhim Zahawi chose to back the ‘Marcus Rashford’ school meals vote.

Opposition Motions like this one are of course designed to embarrass the government but this one was non-binding and five Tory ‘rebels’ did vote for the ‘ayes’.

Mrs Maclean does say help is being provided and in Redditch at least some, if not all, of the eligible children will be getting meal vouchers this half term.

However one can’t help but feel that this government is returning into what Theresa May famously described as the ‘Nasty Party’.” (October 23, 2020)
