WE DON’T Buy Crime – that was the message from West Mercia Police as it unveiled a new website for the scheme.

The crime-fighting project was launched in 2015 when Cleobury Mortimer became the force area’s first SmartWater town.

The move almost eradicating burglary there overnight and there are now 100 SmartWater towns and villages across West Mercia, covering more than 10,000 homes.

Any items marked with SmartWater are put on a database and, if stolen, can easily be returned to their rightful owner.

Such is the liquid’s reliability, if a thief or someone who has handled stolen goods has SmartWater on them, its unique DNA-style code can be used as evidence and has led to many convictions in the past.
