THE wait is finally over as popular pub The Royal Enfield opened its new £800,000 beer garden today.
Mayor of Redditch Roger Bennett arrived at the Unicorn Hill Wetherspoon at 12pm to cut the ribbon and welcome visitors.
He said: “It’s fantastic for the town, they have done an excellent job.
“I’m really pleased it’s gone so well.”
Prospect Hill resident Virginia Ackrill said: “On first impressions it’s very nice, modern and clean.
“We needed something like this in Redditch because there was nowhere to sit outdoors in the town centre.
“Lets just hope the beer garden doesn’t get vandalised and stays looking like it is now.”
Also in attendance were members from Royal Enfield Owners Club who arrived in style on Royal Enfield and Triumph motorbikes.
South Midland branch member John Budgen said: “We just wanted to show our support because we of course love everything Royal Enfield related.”
Entrance to the new beer garden can be found at the rear of the pub, and is elevated above the pub’s car park.
The total cost of the refurbishment is more than £1million when including the redecorated inside and new staff room and changing facilities.
Pub manager Gareth Firkin said: “Work began on May 13 so after three months it’s good to finally have it all sorted.
“I’m so chuffed it’s come out better than I could have ever imagined.”
