A TALENTED Redditch musician is one step closer to performing at London’s 02 Academy after making it through the latest round of the Open Mic UK music competition.

Meg Scane, 20, played guitar and sang her heart out during the regional finals held at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall.

She was chosen, along with eight others, to progress to the next round – the area finals – after impressing judges and being picked as an audience favourite.

“I was the last person to be chosen to go through which made the whole thing even more intense,” said Meg.

“There must have been about 200 people watching, but thankfully my friends and family were also there to support me.

“After the announcement I just went for a pint with my mum – it was nice because she bought the round.”

Meg has decided to sing a different original song next time after singing ‘Bottoms Up’ in Sutton.

The venue is yet to be decided but Meg has been told she will go against others from across the country, including London, Manchester and Leeds.

To prepare she will be cramming in as many gigs as possible to make sure she is up to scratch come November 16.

“I would be over-the-moon if I got through because it would be a dream come true to play at the 02.”
