Support Redditch upgrades its food support service

Redditch Editorial 2nd Mar, 2021   0

EMERGENCY charity Support Redditch has upgraded its food support service so those needing a food parcel can ‘pick their own’ contents for free or for a few pence more.

“We wanted to make sure all the items we sent out were useful as everyone has different tastes as well as dietary needs, so a standard parcel would never be perfect for everyone,” said trustee Emma Marshall.

“We decided it would be more empowering to let people choose their own food.

“I love the fact that families can choose what they need rather than a one size fits all approach.”

Fellow trustee, Coun Mike Rouse, added: “There could be up to 15,000 people on furlough in Redditch and perhaps some of them just want a bit to tide themselves over rather than a full package, which is why this new way of doing things is ideal.”

The cost of stocking the new e-shop is subsidised thanks to grant funding from the government.

“Kind donations from private companies and individuals has also allowed us to stock items that were previously considered non-essential,” said Emma.
