THE community of Studley has ralled round to spread some festive cheer by funding the village’s Christmas lights.
It’s a real achievement for local people after the pandemic and lockdowns scuppered the fund-raising plans of the Studley Christmas Lights Committee.
Luckily an appeal to residents brought a heart-warming response and last Friday parish chair Councillor Colin Summers was able to lead the socially-distanced switch-on by the village hall as town crier and fellow Councillor Adrian Smith led the countdown.
“We’d like to thank everyone in the village who helped us this year,” said Val Blundell, chair of Studley Christ Lights Committee.
“We know that an awful lot of people don’t have much money and yet their generosity left me speechless.”
Coun Summers added: “As we all know it has been a difficult year but it’s a pleasure and an absolutely honour to switch on the Studley Christmas lights.”
As well as local residents who contributed to the festive lights fund, many dedicated in memory of loved ones and local organisations also helped, including Studley in Bloom, Studley in Business, Studley Scouts and Studley Parish Council.
