Staff at Redditch Slimstock raise more than £2,000 for the Alexandra Hospital by hiking 25 miles

STAFF at Redditch firm Slimstock UK raised over £2,000 for the Alexandra Hospital after hiking more than 25 miles and taking 64,000 steps in the ‘Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge’.

The team raised the cash for the hospital’s specialist chemotherapy unit, The Garden Suite, smashing their original target of £1,000.

Staff on the unit looked after the father of Slimstock employee Jessie Cooper, Gary, who was diagnosed with bile duct cancer in August 2017.

The Garden Suite provided his initial care and support.

After getting back on the road to recovery and remission, in January 2019, Jessie and her family were given the news that no one wants to hear – Gary’s cancer had returned.

However the hardworking team on the specialist chemotherapy ward have continued to provide specialist and on-going care for Gary.

Jessie said: “The staff on the ward have been fantastic, not only in terms of treatment that’s available, but also the compassion and commitment of their amazing team.”

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes on the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

It is usually completed in under 12 hours.

These peaks form part of the Pennine range and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
