SOS to bring Broadway hit 42nd Street to the Palace stage

Redditch Editorial 26th Feb, 2022   0

THE hit musical 42nd Street is being brought to the Palace stage by the highly regarded Studley Operatic Society (SOS).

Consisting of a cast of 40 alongside a sizeable production team, SOS’s production combines show-stopping numbers, dazzling costumes and unforgettable tap routines.

SOS chair, Lorraine Hill, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to bring the glitz and glamour of Broadway to Redditch Palace Theatre this April, especially after the unpredictable events of the last 18 months.

“I’m so unbelievably proud of the sheer time and effort that has been put in by our members to bring 42nd Street to life.

“It promises to be a musical to remember.”

Based on the 1932 novel by Bradford Ropes, 42nd Street is ‘a show within a show’ and follows revered Broadway director Julian Marsh who falls on hard times and helms an ambitious musical as a final production before his retirement.

His lead actress and classic Broadway Diva, Dorothy Brock, is torn between two loves – the show’s wealthy backer, Abner Dillon, and the earnest but penniless actor Pat Denning.

All this while aspiring young performer and starry-eyed Peggy Sawyer waits in the wings, hoping for her big break.

Led by directors Alison and Kevin Hirons, SOS’s production of 42nd Street is at Redditch Palace Theatre from Tuesday to Saturday, April 5-9, 2022.

Tickets are now available to purchase either directly through the SOS cast/society members or via the Palace Theatre website.

The Palace Theatre has also recently supported Dynamik Theatre’s stunning production of Into the Woods and the popular Starlight School of Dance’s annual pantomime, Aladdin.

The theatre will also be supporting youth groups such as, Stagecoach Redditch with their production of We Will Rock You, Harlequins’ Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jnr and The Palace Youth Theatre’s production of Annie.
