“I CANNOT emphasise enough how important it is to fit smoke alarms and make sure they’re working.
“It’s become a bit of a cliche now but they really do save lives.”
That was the verdict of Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service Watch Commander Matt Dormer after he attended a fire early this morning, Wednesday, December 18, in Kineton Close, Matchborough.
“The occupants were really, really lucky,” added Mr Dormer, who, as Councillor Dormer, is the Leader of Redditch Borough Council.
A spokesperson for HWFRS said three fire crews from Redditch and one from Bromsgrove were called at 6.56am to a fire in a terraced home in Kineton Close in Redditch.
The fire is believed to have started in a bedroom and two people, an adult woman and a child suffering from smoke inhalation were put in the care of West Midlands Ambulance Service.
The blaze was extinguished by hose reel jet and two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.
