Shop could be crowned best of the best

Redditch Editorial 6th Nov, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

FECKENHAM Village Shop is competing against others from across the country to be crowned the best of the best.

The store, which is run by volunteers, is part of a special champion of champions scheme being run to celebrate the 10th Countryside Alliance Awards and based on a public vote.

The shop won overall UK and Ireland best village shop title in 2009, making it eligible for the awards which include every venue to have been given the title in the last decade.

Committee chair John Eaton said within seven months of villagers deciding to bring a shop back to Feckenham, after 20 years without one, they had raised over £40,000 and 300 people had signed up as shareholders.

“The result has been a resounding success, not just because a shop has returned to the village after so long, but also because of the feel good factor the project has brought to the community.”

Voting is open until 6pm on Sunday, November 30, and can be done online at www.countrysideallianceawards.org.uk or by post to Countryside Alliance Awards, 367 Kennington Road, London, SE11 4PT.
