THE written word and the visual arts come together in a new exhibition and performance at Studley’s Artists Workhouse.
Set around the theme of Romeo and Juliet which currently on stage at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, ten artists have been paired with ten writers to bring their differing visions together in one sparkling exhibition.
“The idea came out of Stratford and what we have is a collaboration between the artists and writers, who will perform their pieces on two nights in June,” said curator Dawn Harris.
“It’s about taking the age old themes of Romeo and Juliet, finding love, it’s ups and downs and finding your way in the world, but bringing them into a more contemporary setting,” said Dawn.
“We’ve been working on this for eight months and the writing is really strong and I’m very excited about what’s been done.”
The exhibition runs from Saturday, June 9 to Sunday, June 17, from 11am to 4pm (closed Mondays and Tuesdays) and is free to enter.
The performance nights are at 7pm on Friday, June 8 and Saturday, June 16 and entry is £7 or £5 in advance.
