CHILDREN at Roman Way First School rose to the challenge of learning a famous poem off by heart.
All children in Key Stage One chose a poem and, after practising in school and at home, read it out in front of their class.
Four children from each class went through to the ‘Poetry Competition’ final where teachers had the tricky decision of choosing its overall winners.
Year One teacher Georgia Chamberlain, said: “Myself and my colleagues are so proud of all the children.
“It was great to see them really challenge themselves by learning difficult poems such as the ‘The Ning Nang Nong’ and ‘Aliens’ from Planet Trouble.”
Following the success of the event the school is planning to do another poetry competition in the summer, where the children will write their own poems.
