Road to close in Redditch as Severn Trent continues pipe work

Redditch Editorial 28th Mar, 2018   0

A SLIP road in Redditch will be closed to all traffic from next week to allow engineering works to be carried out.

Severn Trent Water is installing a new mains pipe to the pumping station off the Matchborough Way slip road off the Warwick Highway.

As a result, the Matchborough Way slip road will be closed to all traffic from Tuesday, April 3 to Sunday, April 15.

During the works, access will be granted to all traffic via the bus lanes at Winyates Way to Moons Moat Drive which is the official diversion route and the bus lanes at Matchborough Way and Icknield Street Drive.

All restrictions in these bus lanes will been relaxed for the entire duration of the works which have been programmed to take place during the Easter holidays to minimise disruption to drivers.

Severn Trent spokesman Gareth Mead said: “We’re always monitoring the condition of our water pipes and we’ve taken the decision that now is the right time to make upgrades in Redditch to make sure supplies are not interrupted by leaks and bursts.

“We’ve been working in Redditch for a little while now and we’d like to thank local people for their patience and support while we complete this essential work which will make sure they have a reliable water supply for many years to come.”

He added: “We’re carrying this work out during the school holidays when there will be fewer vehicles on the road and this should result in less disruption to local traffic.

“Hopefully customers will appreciate the long-term benefits these new pipes will bring.”
